JUBILATIONS As Tinubu’s Govt Reportedly Pays Students Schooling In These 6 Universities N20, 000 Monthly Stipend; SEE Their List
No fewer than 20, 371 students from six tertiary institutions have been paid N20, 000 monthly stipends for July 2024. This significant financial aid is aimed at alleviating the economic burden on students and ensuring they have the necessary resources to continue their education without interruption.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced that these stipends have been disbursed to students from the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), the University of Benin (UNIBEN), the University of Ibadan (UI), and three other tertiary institutions. This initiative is part of NELFUND’ s broader mission to support higher education in Nigeria.
Additionally, the NELFUND director of finance, Ibom Uche, revealed that plans are underway to expand this program significantly.
Soon, students from 55 additional tertiary institutions will be added to the monthly stipends list. This expansion is expected to provide much- needed financial relief to a larger number of students across the country.
Ibom Uche disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, August 5, as reported by The Punch. The move underscores NELFUND’ s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and supporting students’ financial needs.
He listed the six universities as:
Bayero University Kano (BUK) in Kano state.
Federal University, Dutsin- Ma in Katsina state.
University of Ilorin, (UNILORIN) Kwara state.
University of Benin (UNIBEN) in Edo state.
University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo state.
University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) in Borno state.
He said: ” It is anticipated that this will be concluded within the next two weeks as the fund is committed to ensuring that all eligible students receive their stipends promptly. ”
He also stated that President Bola Tinubu has pledged an additional N50 billion to the student loan cause, Leadership reported.
He stated further: ” It is noteworthy that the President only Sunday committed a further 50 billion Naira from recovered proceeds of crime. ”
He added: ” NELFUND appreciates the patience and cooperation of students and institutions as the organisation works assiduously to fulfill its previously made commitments to Nigerian students. ”
Meanwhile, it was stated that NELFUND registered approximately 60, 000 students from federal tertiary institutions. Akintinde Sawyerr, NELFUND’ s managing director, asked the remaining institutions to hasten their data submission.
The agency intends to launch its loan application online for state- owned higher institutions on June 25. The student loan site was just made available for student applications at 126 tertiary institutions, including federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
