ENDBADGOVT PROTEST! Politician Escape Death As Protesters Storm His Home, 2 Killed, Many Injured
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon Sani Nazifi, narrowly escaped the wrath of angry constituents in Jigawa State on Thursday during a protest against bad governance and hunger. The protesters, who were demanding government intervention to reduce commodity prices and end hunger, stormed Nazifi’ s residence but found him absent. They then turned their attention to the APC headquarters in the state, burning it down.
The protests, which were held nationwide, started peacefully in Jigawa despite efforts by the state and federal governments to dissuade protesters with relief materials and cash. However, the situation degenerated into violence when protesters marched to the APC secretariat and set it on fire. Vehicles parked within the premises were also burnt, and billboards and other publicity materials were destroyed.
Reports indicate that hoodlums infiltrated the peaceful protesters, leading to the deaths of two people and injuries to over 10 others. Four people were admitted to the hospital due to injuries and suffocation from teargas fired by Anti- Riot Policemen. Despite police efforts, the situation became uncontrollable, with armed youths overwhelming them and attacking innocent residents.
The armed youths also looted and vandalized the State Fertilizer and Grains Stores in Birnin Kudu and the state Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO) store in Gumel. The incidents highlight the growing tensions and frustration among Nigerians over the country’ s economic challenges and the government’ s response to them.
