BLOODBATH In CHURCH! Pastor, Worshippers Run As GUNMEN Open Fire, Kill Security Officer & Abduct Politician
In a sad incident in Delta State, some deadly gunmen reportedly invaded a church, opened fire on the innocent worshippers in their efforts to abduct a former Commissioner for Higher Education in the State.
According to the report, at least one security officer was shot dead when the gunmen stormed the church off Delta Broadcasting Service Street in Asaba. The former Commissioner, Joan Onyemachi Mrapkpor, popularly known as ” Ada Anioma, ” was also kidnapped during the incident.
An eyewitness who inside the church during the incident told the newsmen that everybody ran for safety immediately the gunmen enter the church during a programme. He added that apart from the man killed at the spot, another one hit by the bullets is battling for his life.
” There was a commotion inside her church close to police headquarters, DBS Road. We all ran due to the shooting. It just happened about a few minutes ago. One aide was shot dead, and a security personnel is presently unconscious, ” the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said.
It was further gathered that the abducted politician recently resigned as member of the House of Representatives, to give support for her brother contesting for the local government council chairmanship election in the State.
Meanwhile, while reacting to the incident, the State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the unfortunate incident. He also confirmed the killing of a police officer during the attack.
He further added that the security operatives are after the criminals, stressing that they will do everything to rescue the kidnapped Commissioner and get them apprehended and made to face the consequences of their actions.
It should be noted that the death of the police officer came a few days after four officers were reportedly killed by gunmen in Imo State. The officers and a civilian were sent to their early graves along the Onitsha- Owerri Expressway in Owerri.
