Prosecutors argued that simple blood tests or an ultrasound procedure could have detected the internal injuries, which, with timely intervention, could have been treated. M. to one year in prison for causing homicide through negligence, disqualified him from practicing medicine for three years, and ordered him to pay $176, 000 in compensation to Stella’ s son.
Olusegun Obasanjo, still grieving the loss of his wife, referred to the doctor as ” careless” and recounted how he sought justice for Stella’ s death with the help of the Nigerian Embassy in Spain and the Spanish authorities. ” I instructed that the doctor and the clinic be prosecuted.
