The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the distribution of 10 additional trucks of 50kg rice to each state. This rice will be sold at designated centers for N40, 000 per bag. This measure aims to address poverty and the high cost of living in the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
He emphasized that the government is taking steps to address the concerns of the citizens, especially ahead of the planned national protest on August 1. President Bola Tinubu has stated that he is already working on behalf of the youth by addressing their grievances.
” The FEC believes that most of the demands made by the protesters are being addressed by the federal government. Therefore, there is no need for the protests, ” Minister Idris said. ” This government listens to its people. The President has heard the voices of those planning the protest and is already taking action. ”
The Minister highlighted the government’ s efforts to ensure food availability and affordability. He pointed out that the last Council meeting announced the distribution of 20 trucks of rice to state governors for distribution to the poorest in society. In addition, the government has arranged for rice to be sold at half its cost price, making a bag of rice available for N40, 000.

” These 10 trucks per state are just the beginning, ” Minister Idris added. ” We know these supplies may not be enough, but they are a necessary first step. More interventions are on the way. ”
He also mentioned ongoing investments in the agricultural sector, which are expected to lower food prices as the rainy season progresses and irrigation projects advance.
The government is also addressing other demands from the youth. Recently, the federal government began disbursing student loans to over two million students, another measure aimed at alleviating economic pressures on young Nigerians.
” These efforts show that the government is not only listening but also acting. We believe that the steps taken will meet many of the concerns raised by the youth and make the protests unnecessary, ” Idris concluded.
