TENSION! Thugs Threaten Residents Not To Join Protest In Lagos State [SEE VIDEO]
Some suspected thugs have started to threaten residents of Lagos State not to come out for the hunger protest scheduled for Thursday, August 1 to August 10.
The Punch reports that in a viral clip on Tuesday, the people whose voices were only heard were warning the market women and men to desist from the planned nationwide protest as it might lead to more destruction than what was witnessed in the #EndSARS protest of October 2020.
“Anybody that is confident should come out on Thursday to protest. Are you the only one hungry?
“If you dare come out for the protest, you will be mercilessly dealt with,” the men in the video warned.
In a related development, a former Member of the House of Representatives, Oghene Egoh, has appealed to the youths in Lagos State to reconsider their participation in the scheduled nationwide protest against hardships in the country.
The ex-lawmaker, during a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, recalled how shops were looted, and government properties were destroyed during the 2020 #EndSARS protest against police brutality.
He warned that such events must not reoccur again.
He expressed his concerns regarding the potential for the Augsust 1 protest to be hijacked by individuals with malicious intent, leading to violence and the unnecessary loss of lives.
Egoh
Egoh, who served as the representative for Amuwo-Odofin (Lagos) in the National Assembly for two consecutive terms, cautioned that while citizens have the right to voice their dissent against certain government actions, it is imperative for the organizers to seek alternative methods to address the country’s issues in a manner that promotes peace.
He encouraged the Nigerian populace to exercise patience in the current administration of President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to rectify the situation.
“Majority of the shops and properties in Lagos, owned by the Igbos and people of other tribes, were looted, and many properties were lost during the protests.
“Many people participated in the #EndSARS protests just to loot and destroy.
