The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of Samuel Adeniyi, accused of murdering his girlfriend with a sledgehammer in an undisclosed area of Lagos. This information was revealed by the state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, during a press briefing at the Police Officers Mess in Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday.
Commissioner Owohunwa explained that Adeniyi allegedly killed his girlfriend due to fears that she might leave him for someone else. While presenting the suspect, Owohunwa stated, ” Samuel Adeniyi, overwhelmed by emotions, smashed his girlfriend’ s head with a sledgehammer, killing her. He believed she might abandon him, and for that reason alone, he murdered her and fled. We have since arrested him and recovered the sledgehammer used in the crime. He will be brought to justice. ”
During the briefing, Owohunwa also showcased other arrested criminals and highlighted the success of Operation Flush, a recent police initiative aimed at curbing crime in Lagos. ” It’ s been a month since we launched Operation Flush, designed to reclaim public spaces from criminal elements threatening Lagos State’ s internal security, ” he said.
In the last two weeks, the police have made significant recoveries and arrests. Among the items seized were 18 firearms, including two AK- 47 rifles and a uniquely fabricated gun previously unseen in criminal arsenals in the country. Additionally, two locally made toy guns used in robberies, 15 cartridges, four spent cartridges, six machetes, 34 bags of suspected Indian hemp, and two bags containing counterfeit US dollars and British pounds were recovered.
Owohunwa also reported the seizure of six kegs of fake Total engine oil, indicating the existence of a syndicate adulterating engine oil in Lagos. ” This points to a syndicate within Lagos engaged in adulterating engine oil, and we have cracked this operation, ” he said.
Furthermore, the command has apprehended suspects linked to the murder of a policeman in the Ikeja area of Lagos.
The press briefing underscored the Lagos State Police Command’ s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents. The arrest of Adeniyi and the successful operations under Operation Flush are part of broader efforts to enhance security and maintain public order in Lagos.
