The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday declared that no protest will be allowed in the capital city as he promised to keep Abuja free from any form of demonstration.
The Minister made this known while speaking after a security meeting in the capital on Thursday. He declared that Abuja is not available for any protest because the government will not give room for it.
” To those who want to protest on the 1st of August, FCT is not available to any form of protests. We will not allow it, ” Wike said.
According to Wine, August 1st, which the Sponsors of the protest scheduled to begin their demonstration has been set aside for the celebration and issuance of certificates to the Chairmen of the six Area Councils and traditional rulers.
He further explained that the government understands that protest is a constitutional right of every Nigeria, but Nigerians need to work together for the betterment of the country.
” We know that it is a very difficult period for the citizens, but we urge Nigerians to be patient, ” he added.
Meanwhile, Dele Momodu, a veteran journalist and the publisher of Ovation Magazine, has expressed concerns over the planned protest, stressing that it will be too risky for the country, particularly since the Sponsors of the protest are faceless.
He added that, with his experience regarding protests, nothing is riskier for a country than a protest to be led by faceless people.

” I have 46 years experience in protests, since 1978 at the University of Ife, ” Momodu said in a post on his social media account.
” There’ s nothing riskier for a nation than faceless people or a mob leading protests. It is the right of everyone to protest, but not the right of anyone to cause mayhem… And the government has the right to protect lives and properties, ” he added.
