A devastating tale of sexual exploitation and abuse has emerged in Lagos, Nigeria, involving a 16-year-old student and a pastor at a popular pentecostal church. The victim, who is currently recovering in a hospital, has courageously shared her story of suffering at the hands of a man she trusted.
Orphaned at the tender age of 10, the young girl was taken in by an uncle, George, who introduced her to the pastor. The pastor, who had recently separated from his wife, promised to care for her and provide education. Instead, he began a six-year reign of terror, subjecting her to sexual violations and forcing her to undergo four abortions without her consent.
The victim recalls being given drugs to make her sexually active” and losing memory after taking them. She reported the abuse to church leaders and teachers, but was silenced and ignored. The pastor’s grip on her was so strong that she felt trapped and alone.
“I was just a child when it started, ” she said, her voice trembling. “I didn’t know what was happening. He would give me drugs and then… and then he would do things to me.”
The victim’s ordeal began in the pastor’s three-bedroom flat at 6, Dolamo Street, Agodo- Egbe, where she was forced to live with him. She was made to believe that she was lucky to have a roof over her head and food on the table.
“He told me that I was lucky to have him in my life,” she said. ” That he was doing me a favor by taking care of me.” But the favor came with a steep price. The pastor’s sexual demands increased over time, and the victim was forced to undergo multiple abortions to cover up his crimes.
“The first time I got pregnant, I was so scared, she said. “I didn’t know what to do. He took me to a doctor who aborted the pregnancy. I was just 12 years old.”
The victim’s story is a heart-wrenching account of manipulation, coercion, and abuse. She was made to feel guilty for the pastor’s actions, and was told that she would be thrown out of the house if she didn’t comply.
“I felt so alone,” she said. “I didn’t know who to turn to. I thought that I was the only one who was suffering.”
But the victim’s luck changed when she slumped and started bleeding from her private part while heading to school. Sympathizers rushed her to a hospital along Isolo- Mushin Road, finally revealing the extent of the abuse.
The hospital bed she laid on was soaked with blood, and the attention of a church member, who is also a family friend of her guardian, was invited. When the result of the scan came out, it revealed that the abortion was not properly done.
The pastor, known as Daddy” to the victim, has been arrested, and police investigations are ongoing. The victim is currently receiving medical attention and counseling to help her overcome her ordeal.
This horrific case highlights the dark underbelly of sexual abuse and exploitation in Nigeria, where victims often suffer in silence. It is a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and support for those who have suffered at the hands of abusers.
