NO More PROTEST? Tinubu Government In Panic, Conveys Emergency Meeting Over End Bad Government Protest
The President Bola Tinubu- led Nigerian government has scheduled an emergency meeting for Wednesday morning to address the imminent nationwide protest tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria set for August The meeting comes on the heels of Tinubu’ s recent appeal to protest organisers, urging them to delay the demonstrations and allow his administration more time to implement people- oriented programmes.
The circular, titled ” Planned Nationwide Protest” and dated July 23, 2024, was signed by Ri. All ministers, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, as well as Special Advisers to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala- Usman, Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, were invited to the meeting.
The statement read: ” I am directed to invite you to attend a meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on the foregoing issue, scheduled as follows: July 24, 2024, at 10 a. m. , Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Conference Room. Attendance is mandatory. Please accept the best wishes of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. ”
According to SaharaReporters, Tinubu advised Nigerian youths to postpone their planned protest and wait for the government to resolve their problems. Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday during a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He stated, ” On the matter of the scheduled protest, Mr President sees no necessity for it. He asked them to suspend that idea and to wait for the government’ s answer to all of their concerns. So there’ s no need for a strike. The young people out there should listen to the President and give him more time to see that all of his promises to them are fulfilled. ”
” We also discussed the country’ s general issues, and Mr. President has requested me to remind Nigerians that he listens to them, particularly the young people who are protesting. The federal government is considering measures to ensure that every intervention goes directly to individuals who benefit from it, rather than through middlemen. Idris emphasized President Tinubu’ s strong support for the recently established Student Loan Board, which aims to ensure that all eligible students have access to higher education.
