After House Representative Donated Half Of Their Salaries To Nigerians, See What Atiku Said That’s Unbelievable
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has criticized the House of Representatives for slashing their salaries by 50% for six months. This follows the adoption of an amendment to a motion’ s prayer by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, on the need for lawmakers to sacrifice 50% of their monthly salary of N600, 000.
He stated that the salary cut will be used to support the federal government’ s efforts to address the country’ s rising food prices and alleviate the hardship that Nigerians are experiencing. The motion was adopted and referred to the Humanitarian Affairs, Finance, and Budget committees for compliance. With each member paying N300, 000 into a common purse, the legislative chamber will contribute N108 million monthly to the Federal Government and N648 million for six months.
In a post on X, Atiku criticized the move, urging lawmakers to cut allowances instead of salaries. He argued that the country cannot afford to borrow to fund government irresponsibility due to excessive waste and prioritization of non- essential expenses. He called for an overall cut in expenses and pork.
It could be recalled that the house of Representatives agreed to give up half of thier salaries for six months to help the federal government in fighting hardship in the country, but it seems this is not enough according to Atiku who accused them of eye services.
The House of Representatives assures Nigerians that they will do everything possible to make sure that the tackle the high level of hardship in the country.
