The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government, stating that Nigeria will ” cease to be” if anything happens to their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
According to IPOB, Kanu, who is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), is seriously ill, and his health is rapidly deteriorating. IPOB is calling for his immediate and unconditional release so he can receive proper medical treatment.
In a statement released on Wednesday by IPOB’ s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group expressed deep concern over Kanu’ s worsening health condition.
” Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is seriously sick and must be released unconditionally from DSS solitary confinement for him to treat himself before something unpredictable and unimaginable happens to him, ” the statement read.
IPOB accused the Nigerian government of deliberately provoking the group by continuing to detain Kanu, despite court orders for his release. ” The Nigerian government is intentionally provoking IPOB by refusing to release our leader even when the Nigerian and international courts have ordered for his unconditional release, ” Powerful added.
The secessionist group also claimed that the Nigerian government has previously refused to obey court orders to release Kanu. However, it is important to note that this claim has been found to be false in the past.
The group reiterated its commitment to non- violent advocacy for Biafra’ s independence, despite what it described as the Nigerian government’ s heavy- handedness.
They warned of severe consequences if Kanu’ s health continues to decline in custody. ” Nigeria will not be the same if anything happens to him. In fact, Nigeria will cease to be if anything untoward happens to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, ” IPOB declared.
The call for Kanu’ s release is growing louder as concerns for his health increase. IPOB’ s strong words highlight the tensions between the Nigerian government and the secessionist group, which have persisted for years.
