BREAKING! Simon Ekpa Shocks Tinubu’s Government, Returns His Athletic Medals
In a dramatic move, prominent Biafra activist Simon Ekpa has returned all the athletic medals he won representing Nigeria, effectively severing his last ties with the country. This gesture comes as Ekpa intensifies his calls for Biafran independence and distances himself from his past achievements as a Nigerian athlete.
According to a statement released on his official social media handle, Ekpa sent the medals back to the Nigerian government through a logistics company from Finland on Friday, July 14, and they were received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Monday, July 15.
The returned medals include a 2003 African Junior Silver Medal and two ExxonMobile track and field medals (one gold and one silver). Ekpa clarified that he would retain other medals unrelated to Nigeria.
This symbolic act is the latest in Ekpa’ s public renunciation of his Nigerian roots. In 2022, he had already renounced his Nigerian citizenship, solidifying his commitment to the Biafran cause.
As the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In- Exile, Ekpa has been a vocal advocate for Biafran independence. His return of the medals serves as a powerful statement, underscoring his complete disassociation from Nigeria.
Ekpa’ s athletic achievements once made him a celebrated figure in Nigeria, but he has now chosen to relinquish those accolades in pursuit of his political ideals. This move is likely to resonate with his supporters and further galvanize the Biafran movement.
The Nigerian government has yet to comment on Ekpa’s gesture, but it is clear that this development will only add to the tensions between the government and Biafran separatists.
As the situation unfolds, one thing is certain-Simon Ekpa’ s bold move will not go unnoticed, and its implications will be closely watched by all parties involved.
