SEROUS TENSION As Simon Ekpa’s Boys Reportedly Kill Commander, Many Cameroonian Soldiers In Devastating Ambush
In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Simon Ekpa, the self- proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile, has announced a deadly encounter between his forces and Cameroonian military personnel. Ekpa, using the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), claimed responsibility for what he described as a decisive and brutal operation carried out by his faction’ s naval unit, the Dragon Fighter Marine.
In his declaration, Ekpa stated, ” The Biafra naval force wing, known as Dragon Fighter Marine, has neutralized the Cameroonian terrorists’ commander, the divisional officer of the Rapid d’ intervention Battalions (BIR), and several other forces in Atabong East in the Bakassi Peninsula. ” This assertion has ignited a firestorm of controversy, drawing attention to the fraught and volatile situation in the region.
The Bakassi Peninsula, a disputed territory between Nigeria and Cameroon, has long been a hotspot for conflict. Ekpa’ s bold claims highlight the continuing unrest and the intricate web of local and international politics affecting the area. The killing of Cameroonian soldiers, if confirmed, could further strain relations between the neighboring countries and exacerbate existing tensions.
Amidst this cross- border turmoil, the Anambra State Police Command has made significant strides in its fight against crime. Over the past two months, police operations have led to the arrest of 200 suspected criminals, a substantial achievement disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nnaghe Itam.
During this period, law enforcement officers recovered an impressive cache of approximately 1, 644 rounds of ammunition. Those detained face charges ranging from kidnapping and cult activities to car theft and minor crimes. Commissioner Itam stressed the importance of rapid response to criminal reports, asserting, ” I am putting in place operational strategies to ensure that within 10 minutes after a crime is reported, a response team will storm the scene. ”
Commissioner Itam credited the collaborative efforts of various security stakeholders, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilante groups, for their roles in bolstering security measures. The Commissioner called on residents to actively participate in the fight against crime by providing valuable information to law enforcement agencies.
Engaging with community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious organizations has been a cornerstone of Itam’ s strategy to foster a cooperative environment conducive to peace and security. He urged traditional leaders to scrutinize cultural practices that might infringe upon fundamental human rights, thereby mitigating potential social conflicts.
In his address, Commissioner Itam issued a stern warning against criminal activities, including land grabbing, voodoo practices, cultism, and any form of violence or abuse of personal freedoms. He assured the public that such activities would not be tolerated and that the police command would take firm action against any attempts to disrupt the peace and stability of Anambra State.
” The support from our governor, the coordinated efforts with other security agencies, and the vigilance of the local groups have significantly enhanced our capacity to tackle crime effectively, ” Itam noted. ” We are committed to ensuring that Anambra remains a safe place for all residents. ”
The Commissioner appealed to the people of Anambra to continue supporting the police by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with law enforcement efforts. He emphasized that maintaining peace and security is a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of all citizens.
” The police command is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of all residents. We will not relent in our efforts to combat crime and ensure a safe environment for everyone, ” Itam concluded.
The developments in Anambra State stand in stark contrast to the violence reported by Simon Ekpa. While the situation in the Bakassi Peninsula raises concerns about regional stability, the proactive measures taken by Anambra’ s law enforcement highlight a more localized approach to addressing security challenges.
Ekpa’ s declaration and the subsequent controversy underscore the complex and multifaceted nature of security issues in the region. As the situation unfolds, the international community will be closely monitoring the actions of both state and non- state actors involved in this ongoing conflict.
