An elderly man, precisely 80 years of age was apprehended and detained by security operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command for engaging in illicit sëxual intércourse with a minor, who appears to be just 10- year- old at the Otuokpoti community in the Ogbia Local Government Area LGA of the state.

However, the suspect, Pa. Stephen was the only name used to identify the suspect, who was reportedly suffering from an advanced pile and a hernia after which the Gender advocacy groups insisted on handling him over to the Divisional Police Headquarters at Ogbia Town.
Credible news sources consistently reported that on Tuesday, 9th July 2024, the person in question was moved to the state police headquarters in Yenagoa and according to a press release issued by gender advocacy groups, the victim’ s foster mother informed reporters that the girl was exhibiting symptoms of illness and inattention while completing household tasks.
It was discovered that the defendant had been abusing the innocent girl for approximately a year, only for some neighbours to inform the victim’ s foster mother that they had witnessed him handing the young girl some cash.
In conclusion, Dise Harry, the founder of the Dise Foundation, told reporters that gender advocacy organizations have to work together to get the suspected taken into custody and placed under arrest.
Harry revealed that the victim will also have a psychological assessment in addition to the medical support and examination provided by the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Bayelsa State Chapter.
She claimed that the victim has been placed in protective custody by the Ministry of Women Affairs of the Bayelsa State Government.
She affirmed saying, ” It is sad that such is happening. It is a red flag to all of us” .
Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), is yet to respond to texts or phone calls regarding what was happening, thus he has not yet confirmed it.
