On Thursday, the Federal Government announced that the conversion of commercial vehicles fueled by gasoline and diesel to compressed natural gas will be provided at no cost.
Michael Oluwagbemi, the Chief Executive and Program Director of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, revealed this to the media following the government agency’ s signing of contracts with several businesses engaged in the conversion of gasoline and diesel- powered vehicles to run on compressed natural gas (CNG).
The National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, among other unions, represented commercial transporters, he claimed, and they would all profit from this.
The director of PCNGI also revealed that ride- sharing companies made up the second category of commercial transporters. Oluwagbemi predicted that when this initiative was put into place, Nigerians will begin to pay less for transportation.
According to PUNCH Online, CNG offers Nigerians more reasonably priced gasoline options than the country’ s current offerings. It will be roughly 40% less expensive than gasoline and, with more investment, will make up a sizeable portion of the country’ s energy mix.
