Ijebu State
Similarly, the proposed Ijebu state would be carved out of the current Ogun state. It includes nine local government areas: Ijebu East, Ijebu North- East, Ijebu Ode, Ikenne, Odogbolu, Ogun Waterside, Remo North, Sagamu, and portions of Abeokuta, the state capital. The creation of Ijebu state is intended to enhance administrative efficiency and cater to the unique developmental needs of the Ijebu people, who have long felt marginalized within the larger Ogun state framework.
Ife- Ijesha State
The proposed Ife- Ijesha state, also sponsored by Honourable Oke, would be carved out of the present Osun state. It comprises nine local government areas: Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Boluwaduro, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ife South, Ilesa East, and Ilesa. This new state aims to bring governance closer to the people of Ife and Ijesha, fostering greater local development and political representation.
Adada State
The Nigerian Senate has initiated steps towards creating Adada state by passing a bill for its first reading on July 2. Sponsored by Senator Okey Ezea, this bill seeks to amend the country’ s constitution to create a new state from the existing Enugu North senatorial district. The creation of Adada state is expected to address the specific administrative and developmental needs of the Enugu North region, providing more localized governance and resource distribution.
The creation of these new states is not merely an administrative exercise but a potential catalyst for significant socio- economic transformation. It promises to bring governance closer to the people, improve resource allocation, and address longstanding regional grievances.
