Details obtained by PUNCH Online reveal that the ghastly incident took place around 2 am, when Ufuoma, allegedly suffering from mental instability, attacked his father while he was asleep. Using a cutlass, Ufuoma inflicted fatal wounds to his father’s skull and other parts of his body before neighbors and church members could intervene.
The reverend’ s wife narrowly escaped death as she rushed to save her husband, only for Ufuoma to chase. her out of the house. Eyewitnesses disclosed that this wasn’t the first violent episode involving Ufuoma, other sources revealed that he had previously attacked his father but was restrained by the local vigilante group.
At that time, Rev. Umurie had pleaded for his son to be spared from police action, believing that his son’s violent outburst was due to his mental health Issues.
Ufuoma was eventually subdued by community members during the ensuing chaos and handed over to the authorities at the Otu- Jeremi Divisional Headquarters.
Confirming the incident, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe stated, “The suspect is already in police custody and he would be prosecuted for the crime. Rev. Umurie was nearing retirement and had been assigned closer to home to ease into this next chapter of his life.
