The state is refocusing on a movement centered on truth and consistency rather than party politics, according to Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara. The statement was given by the governor on Wednesday at Government House in Port Harcourt while hosting a group from the Senate Committee on Privatization and Commercialization, which is headed by Senator Orji Uzo Kalu.
The governor said that party membership will no longer hold the state back and that it will instead stand strong on its own territory to protect democracy.
According to Fubara: ” In our state today we are no longer doing party. We are doing a movement, so you don’ t blame me if I don’ t go to the side of party too much. The party has failed us here, so what we are doing here is to stand with our two legs on the soil of Rivers State, so that we can defend democracy. ”
This new development coincides with an ongoing political dispute in the state that started last year between Governor Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Federal Capital Territory’ s Minister.
The crisis worsened even after President Bola Tinubu intervened, when Caretaker Committee Chairmen took the position of Pro- Wike Local Government Chairmen. The People’ s Democratic Party (PDP), which Fubara and Wike are both members of, has not commented on Wike’ s punishment, which has led to rumors about his power over party officials.
