On Saturday, the arrested killers of 70- year-old retired Brigadier General Uwem Udokwere, confessed to the crime, narrating how the incident occurred on a Saturday in Abuja s Sunshine Home Estate at approximately 3 a. m.
One of the criminals revealed that they stormed the general’s residence, and stabbed him to death as the latter attempted to protect his family.
He further debunked the reports that the General was shot repeatedly to death.
Meanwhile, according to eyewitness accounts, the criminals, estimated to be around five in number, hid around the compound while three of them entered the house. The general, upon hearing the commotion, came down from the top floor to confront the intruders and was immediately attacked and stabbed.
The house security guard, who wished to remain anonymous, described the horrific scene, stating, “I saw three of them trying to force themselves into the compound. When the general came down, they attacked and stabbed him.
The Vice Chairman of the Estate, Benedicta Odeigba, revealed that this was not the first time the general’ s house had been targeted, with similar attempts made in the past using the same entry point.
She also narrated the bravery of security guard Ihakuo Umar, who was attacked and left unconscious while trying to respond to the incident.
Residents described the gruesome scene, with one eyewitness, Chinedu Odeigba, who transported the general to the hospital, stating, “When I carried him, his legs had already stretched, and I could feel he was lifeless in my hand. The blood was too much.
The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event, with the FCT Police Command s Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, assuring a thorough and discreet probe.
As the community mourns the loss of the retired brigadier general, residents are left to grapple with the harsh reality of insecurity and the need for enhanced security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
