A disturbing incident occurred at a Catholic church in Rourkela, where two priests, Albis Lakra and Nirtel Bilung, were brutally attacked and taken hostage by a group of 8-10 masked individuals.
The assailants, armed with sticks and iron rods, broke into the church around 2:30 am, forcing open the doors to the priests’ quarters and subjecting them to a vicious beating.
The attackers then demanded the keys to the church’s donation box and an almirah containing school fees and other funds. After obtaining the keys, they made off with approximately Rs 10 lakh.

Government Hospital for treatment. The church officials reported the incident to Brahmani Tarang police station on Saturday morning, prompting a swift response from the authorities.
A forensic team and dog squad were dispatched to the scene, and Rourkela SP Brijesh Kumar Rai visited the hospital to speak with the injured priests.
The police have registered a case under Section 395 of the IPC and have launched an investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.
