Why I Paid Buhari A Visit- Atiku Abubakar Finally Speaks After Meeting With Ex- President In Daura
The flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has revealed why he visited former president, Muhammadu Buhari.
Daily Trust had earlier reported that Atiku, a former Vice President, visited Buhari at his Daura residence in Katsina State on Saturday.
It was gathered that Senator Aminu Tambuwal, the immediate past
Governor of Sokoto State, alongside other PDP stakeholders accompanied Atiku on his visit.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page on Saturday, Atiku revealed that he visited the former Nigerian leader to pay Sallah homage.
He wrote: Accompanied by some stakeholders of our great party, the PDP, we visited the Daura residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari to pay a courtesy call and offer Sallah homage.
The visit is coming barely three days after Atiku visited former military heads of state, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, in their respective residences in Minna, Niger State.
Announcing the earlier visits in a post on X, Atiku had said, “Today, I paid Sallah homage to former Heads of State Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and Gen. Abdusalami at their residences in Minna, Niger State. ”
The visits have heightened speculations that Atiku is preparing grounds to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In May, Atiku had vowed to continue contesting for the presidency as long as he’s healthy.
The former vice president made the declaration amid moves to form a coalition with his counterpart from Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, and other political parties
Earlier, the former vice president has said that if in 2027, the party decides that it is the South-East’s turn and selects Peter Obi as its candidate, he will readily offer his support.
“I have said repeatedly and I even said
it before the 2023 general elections that if the PDP decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South or South-East specifically, I won’t contest it. As long as it’s the decision of the party, I will abide by it. But I contested the 2023 presidential ticket because it was thrown open to all members of the party. “If the party decides that it’s the turn of the South-East and Peter Obi is chosen, I won’t hesitate to support him, “Atiku declared in a recent interview with BBC Hausa Service. Atiku, however added that a merger between the PDP and Labour Party is possible.
