JUST IN: We Will Pay Agreed New Minimum Wage, Governor Assured Workers
Akwa Ibom State’s Head of Service, Elder Effiong Essien, affirmed that the state government is committed to implementing the new minimum wage as agreed between the Federal Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress. Essien made these remarks during a press briefing on Wednesday as part of the 2024 Public Service Week, themed “Stay Forward Looking… Make a Difference”
He emphasized the state’ s proactive stance on wage issues, recalling that Akwa Ibom was among the first states to implement the previous minimum wage increase in 2019, surpassing the national agreed amount. Essien assured that once the new minimum wage is formally announced, the state government will promptly declare its implementation plan.
The celebration of Public Service Week holds special significance for Akwa Ibom State this year, marking the first time in a decade that the event has been observed. Essien expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for enabling the state’s workers. to participate in this global recognition of public service, which coincides with the United Nations Public Service Day observed annually on June 23rd.
