Credible reports from reliable sources revealed that, the ugly incident happened on Wednesday at around three o’ clock in the afternoon in the Nasaru hamlet, which is part of the Ningi Local Government Area LGA of the state.
An disagreement broke out between Yunusa and another person, during which Yunusa apparently uttered the blasphemous words. This swiftly turned into an uproarious action, as stated by an eyewitness who identified himself as Umar Abubakar.
“The victim was a member of the Faira Islamic Sect. When he insulted the Prophet, some young men challenged him to retract his statement. He refused and repeated it, which led to the beating”, Abubakar recounted to journalists on phone.
Due to the tensed and unexpected circumstances, another witness, who desired to remain nameless, stated that Yunusa was first saved by the Police and taken to their checkpoint in the hamlet. But the crowd murdered him after challenging and overpowering the security operatives. Although, some text messages were sent to the Superintendent of Police, SP Ahmed Muhammad, a spokesperson and public relations officer (PPRO) for the Bauchi State Police Command, but he did not respond, thus attempts to gain his response were unsuccessful.
More reports in the media disclosed that, Yunusa’s death is reminiscent to an occurrence that happened in Sade village, Darazo Local Government Area, Bauchi State, in May 2021. Talle Mai Ruwa, a water vendor, was set on fire by the enraged teenagers for supposedly blaspheming against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Meanwhile, prior to being taken from his cell and slain by the mob, Mai Ruwa was being held at a nearby police station.
Another occurrence repeated itself sometime in May 2022, whereby one Rhoda Jatau, a Christian woman and 40-year-old mother of four who works as a health worker for the Warji Local Government Area, was suspected of publishing a clip on her office’s WhatsApp platform that was deemed disrespectful to Islam, which Infuriated the Muslim community. As a result, she didn’t live to tell the story as she was executed in Katanga, the Warji local government area LGA headquarters.
