AGAIN, Gunmen Dressed In Police Uniforms Gun Down Defenseless Residents, Hack Others With Cutlasses; See Their Ridiculous Reason
Another terrible incident was reported from the Isi- Uzo local government area LGA of Enugu State, precisely the Umu- Ezuboke Umualor community which was attacked by gunmen on Saturday, 15th June 2024 as news reporters learned that at least four people who suffered multiple gunshot wounds are currently being treated in hospitals as a result of the merciless acts of the attackers. Throwing more light on the incident and recounting their unpleasant experiences while on the hospital bed, one of the victims, Mr. Methodist Ejiagbo revealed saying, “three months ago, some Abakaliki boys came to my house and told me that they will invade us with war, we are living in the farmlands. They said they would kill me and take over my house and land. One of them, Friday Ukeh said he would take over my house that it is the most beautiful house around”.
“So, on Saturday while returning to my house I saw two Hilux vans with a Sienna bus. The occupants wore clothes like police uniforms. They collected phones and matchets from our people returning from the farm but let the young go as one said the boy was not from Umu-Ezuboke”, he said.
Commenting more on the incident, the survivor went on to say that, at around 11 p. m, they entered and began shooting everyone. They also shot me, but I restrained them, and they continued shooting everyone else.
They even broke some people’s hands with clubs after cutting other people with cutlasses. We were taken aback. We didn’t realize it was a bullet sack when they brought a talisman and a bag that resembled a Garri sack three days prior. I told our people that they had placed the medicine man at Nwankwo, but they chose not to go. “They came with two Hilux and one Sienna. We didn’t go to their place, we are Umualor and they are Amankanu people. One of them, Samuel, is an Abakaliki man who lived in Umualor, they now said that our land is Amankanu. It’s a combination of Amankanu and Abakaliki people. Samuel Idenyi, one of them, is from Amankanu. Samuel Ede who is from Abakaliki was the one that collected phones from our people, that was in the evening, at night they now came in full force, attacked and started shooting at us “The man who shot me was Tubor, an Abakaliki man. I know all of them; the other ones are Friday Ukeh, Mark Anyigor, the other one is called stubborn, there was Roma Ekpete’s son, the other one is Oshimo’s son, they are the ones I saw, they were over 20 in number”, he noted.
In the meantime, another survivor appealed to the security authorities of the state to dive into action as soon as possible in order to stop the dreaded gang from shedding more blood and making life miserable for innocent people who are just going about their businesses to put food on their tables and provide for their respective families, adding that if care isn’t taken worst deeds would be recorded and they would not stop until they’ re opposed accordingly. The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe was yet to confirm the attack as of the time calls and text messages were sent to him by newsmen who attempted to get an official response from the security force.
