Ekiti Court SENTENCES Four People To Death By HANGING, See Their Unforgivable Offences
In a landmark judgment, the Ekiti State High Court, Ado Ekiti Division, has sentenced four individuals to death by hanging for their involvement in armed robbery, murder, and conspiracy. Additionally, the court convicted and sentenced them to life imprisonment for the offence of attempted murder.
The defendants, Ogunleye Sola, Adebayo Ebenezer, Lasisi Afeez, and Ojo Oba, were found guilty of the crimes committed on May 29, 2017, at Oyan Orete Camp, Ijan Ekiti. During the incident, the occupants of the camp were robbed at gunpoint, and one Olasunkanmi Ramon was murdered, while Alhaji Adeleye Usman was attacked with a cutlass on the head by the defendants.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Julius Ajibare, led the prosecution for the Ekiti State government, presenting five witnesses and seven exhibits to support the case. The defendants, represented by Chris Omokhafe and Oluwaseun Banji, presented their defence through their counsel and called two additional witnesses.
In his judgment, Justice Olukayode Ogundana concluded that the prosecution had successfully proven all the offences against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt. Consequently, the judge convicted all four defendants and sentenced them to death by hanging for conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder. The defendants were also sentenced to life imprisonment for the offence of attempted murder.
This significant judgment serves as a deterrent to would be criminals and underscores the commitment of the Ekiti State government to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order in the state.
