Two officers from the Delta State Police Command have come under scrutiny after being accused of brutalizing and assaulting a 90-year- old woman and her daughter, Ada Onochie. The officers, who are affiliated with A Division Asaba, are facing allegations of using excessive force in order to steal N250, 000 in cash and phones belonging to Mrs. Blessing Michael and Comrade Jude Ojiugo- Onochie.
The troubling incident took place at the victims’ residence in Asaba, Delta State’ s capital. Social activist Ojiugo- Onochie recounted the terrible experience to reporters, explaining that the officers forcibly entered their home on Konwean Street, Uda Layout by Holy Ghost Movement Church. He stated that the officers entered the premises without proper identification, search warrants, or duly authorized arrest warrants.
The officers’ actions were characterized by violence and disregard for protocol, as they allegedly behaved like” armed hoodlums during the invasion. Ada Onochie, the daughter of the house, was assaulted, and an elderly woman in her 90s was pushed to the ground and the officers proceeded to ransack the rooms and make off with valuables, including phones as N250, 000 in cash belonging to the elderly woman’s son and Ada Onochie’ s uncle.
The stolen money was reportedly kept in the care of Mr. Pat Onochie, despite attempts by the family to seek justice and recover their belongings, nо progress has been made in locating the stolen items. In response to the incident, the family has engaged legal representation and submitted a petition to Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi, urging prompt investigation and accountability for the officers involved.
The family is distressed by the lack of resolution in the case and emphasizes the importance of addressing the misconduct of the police officers, people are in uproar over the incident, showing the need for law enforcement to prioritize the safety and security of citizens.
