In a shocking incident, a 44-year-old fish farmer, Dauda Jolaosho, from Alako Nla village, Abeokuta, has lost his wife to a tragic event involving his. neighbour and friend, Saheed Olawale, a timbre operator. The incident occurred on April 24, 2024, when Olawale, also known as Komaye, shot Jolaosho’ s wife dead over an unpaid solar light bill.
Jolaosho recounted the events leading up to the tragic incident. He and his wife had purchased a solar light from Olawale in March 2023, making a deposit of N10, 000 and agreeing to pay N1, 150 every week. However, Jolaosho had been paying his share of the bill on time, but Olawale had stopped making his payments. The solar light sellers visited Jolaosho’s house to collect the light, leaving a phone number for Olawale to contact them when he returned from work.
When Olawale discovered that the
solar light had been taken away, he quarreled with Jolaosho and refused to listen to his explanations. The following morning, Olawale came to Jolaosho’ s house, picked up his phone, and left. Later that day, he returned with a local gun and shot Jolaosho in the arm. Jolaosho’s wife, who was on her knees begging Olawale not to shoot, was hit in the head and died instantly. The incident was reported at the Kenta police station in Abeokuta and later transferred to the Ogun State police command headquarters.
Olawale has since gone into hiding,
and the police are working to bring
him to justice.
Jolaosho is still reeling from the loss. of his wife, who left behind eight- month-old twins and three other children aged 13, 10, and five. He is demanding justice for his wife’s death and is seeking support from the state government and Nigerians to help him care for his five children. The police. have confirmed the incident and are working to apprehend Olawale.
The tragic incident has left Jolaosho shattered and broken, and he never imagined that such evil could come from a neighbour who was also a close acquaintance. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unresolved conflicts and the importance of maintaining peaceful relationships with those around us.
