MURIC Drops Another Statement, Urges NLC To Do This After Strike Disrupted Over 60, 000 Nigerian Muslim Pilgrims
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has sounded the alarm over the devastating impact of the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on the airlifting of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj and Umrah. In a statement, MURIC Director Prof. Ishaq Akintola lamented that the strike has forced a plane to return to Jedda airport in Saudi Arabia empty, leaving thousands of Muslim pilgrims stranded and in danger.
The strike, which began on June 3, 2024, has brought the airlifting operation of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) to a grinding halt, leaving over 60, 000 Nigerian pilgrims in limbo.
MURIC urged the NLC to immediately call off the strike, warning that the lives of the pilgrims are under palpable threat. The organization expressed concern that the strike is not only causing confusion and hardship but also putting the lives of the pilgrims at risk.
