‘WANTED’ Yahaya Bello Surprises Everyone, See What He Fearlessly Told EFCC From Hiding
In a significant development, Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, has agreed to appear for his arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja on June 13. This decision comes amidst the corruption charges brought against him, representing a crucial moment in the ongoing legal process. Bello’s decision to attend court was confirmed by his lead counsel, Abdulwahab Mohammed, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who assured Justice Emeka Nwite of his client’s cooperation.
The commitment was made after the court rejected a request to halt the trial, signaling Bello’s readiness to address the accusations directly..
Despite the impending legal battle, Bello’s main concern, as expressed by his lawyer, is not the arraignment itself but rather his safety while in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
Citing ongoing safety threats, Bello had previously opted to stay out of the public eye. Justice Nwite, overseeing the case, has assured that the EFCC, as a law- abiding institution, will follow legal procedures and operate within its jurisdiction.
The judge emphasized that Bello is
not the first nor the last former governor to face such charges from the EFCC, and until proven guilty, he is considered innocent under the law.

In response to the judge’ s assurances, Bello’s legal team expressed appreciation, highlighting the importance of ensuring Bello’s safety. They have requested four weeks to ensure Bello’s presence in court for his plea, preferring a court appearance over reporting to the EFCC office.
The court appearance date for Bello was set following an agreement andwith no objection from the EFCC’s counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN). This arrangement was facilitated by a previous ruling from Justice Nwite, mandating Bello’ s presence in court despite the existence of an arrest warrant against him.

The discussion surrounding the arrest warrant has been contentious. Bello’s counsel, Adeola Adedipe (SAN), argued for the warrant’ s dismissal, stating that it had become unnecessary since the lead counsel. had already acknowledged the charges on Bello’ s behalf. Adedipe contended that the warrant,
Issued before the charges, should be revoked by the court. The prosecution, represented by Kel Pinheiro (SAN), insisted that Bello must be physically present in court before any applications could be reviewed.

However, the defense challenged this
stance, pointing out that the EFCC had
submitted a successful application after the arrest warrant was issued, indicating the court’s willingness to consider such requests. The defense further argued that the arrest warrant infringed on Bello’s right to a fair hearing, noting that the

approved.
As the date for Bello’s arraignment
nears, both the legal community and the public anticipate further developments in this high-profile case. The outcome of the proceedings is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape and the enforcement of anti-corruption measures in Nigeria.
