The Arewa Youth Movement, a notable socio-cultural group, has vehemently criticized the ongoing trial of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, alleging that recent courtroom revelations serve as glaring evidence of targeted persecution and witch-hunting against him. During a recent court session, Mr. John Ayoh, a prosecution witness for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), acknowledged under cross-examination by Emefiele s counsel, Mr. Olalekan Ojo, SAN, that he had solicited and received bribes from contractors. However, Ayoh’ s testimony failed to establish any direct link between Emefiele and these alleged bribery activities.
Reacting to these developments, Comrade Isa Galadima, a leader of the Arewa Youth Movement, issued a strongly worded statement condemning the proceedings and reiterating their steadfast belief in Emefiele’s innocence. Galadima argued that the revelations in court only serve to underscore their long- standing assertion that Emefiele is being unjustly targeted for persecution.
