The FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has come under fire from the Oduduwa Youths Initiative (OYI) for allegedly breaking a peace agreement that President Bola Tinubu started.
The OYI said that tensions had Increased because of Wike’ s purported contempt for the peace agreement, even in spite of Governor Fubara’s attempts to put it into effect. Thus, the organization threatened to stage countrywide rallies demanding the FCT minister’s resignation unless he apologized within 24 hours.
The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, has come under fire from the Oduduwa Youths Initiative (OYI), which claims. that by allegedly breaking the Peace Accord that the Nigerian leader started, Wike has disrespected President Bola Tinubu The OYI argued that disrespecting elders and government officials, as Wike has done, is against Yoruba culture in a statement signed by its head, Otunba Gbenga Ojo. Rivers Crisis: Peace Agreement And Wike vs. Fubara Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Governor Wike reached a deal in December 2023 to put a stop to the
political unrest in Rivers state.
At a pivotal meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu and other stakeholders struck an eight- point peace agreement. However, it appears that the peace agreement has broken down based on current political developments in Rivers State.
The OYI attributed the event to Wike, claiming that the state assembly members, in particular, had been the target of persistent assaults on Governor Fubara by the FCT minister and his lieutenant.
Ojo said that the state parliamentarians, under the direction of Martin Amaewhule, had tried in vain to topple Fubara’ s administration many times, as the Daily Independent stated. He said that by vetoing, changing, and passing legislation without the governor of Rivers State’s consent, the lawmakers had persisted in making his life difficult. Ojo pointed out that the growing conflict between the two parties is given more weight by the parliamentarians recent threat to reopen the impeachment process against Governor Fubara.
Group criticizes Wike for his public outbursts Wike’s frequent public outbursts were also criticized by the OYI, which ruled out any chance of a reconciliation with Fubara.
Ojo backed Fubara, claiming that the agreements were carried out by the Rivers governor, who also paid the MPs’ unpaid entitlements and reappointed the nine pro- Wike commissioners who had left in the midst of the turmoil.
