Tragedy struck in Chikomba, Zimbabwe, when a 15-year-old girl, Tariro Svikiro, took her own life after a traumatic experience at the African Apostolic Church. On May 4, 2024, Tariro attended a church service with her mother, where a prophetess, Madzimai Chigora, made a disturbing prophecy that Tariro was no longer a virgin.
Despite Tariro’s denial, a virginity test was allegedly forced upon her, revealing that her hymen was no longer intact.
Devastated and humiliated, Tariro revealed that she had slept with two boys who shared the same surname as the prophetess, implying a possible family connection.
The incident left Tariro in a state of depression, and the next day, her mother found her lying on the floor, critically ill. Tariro had ingested poison and was rushed to Chivhu General Hospital, where she tragically passed away upon admission.
Mashonaland East Police Spokesperson Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident and urged parents to maintain open relationships with their children, encouraging them to seek counseling services in times of need.
Chazovachiyi emphasized the importance of following proper procedures in such matters, highlighting the devastating consequences of unchecked trauma and depression.
