“The marauding herdsmen orchestrated the assault on Agojeju- Odo, leaving 25 casualties in their wake. They descended upon us, mercilessly slaughtering innocents, Akpa recounted, underscoring the menacing atmosphere fueled by land disputes and bloodshed. Our fields lie fallow as the herdsmen pillage our crops, denying our people access to their livelihoods. Their ominous presence instills fear, as they interrogate with chilling words: Are you from Agatu?”
Akpa’ s plea for governmental intervention echoed the community’s desperate cry for protection, fearing a resurgence of violence. We implore the authorities to safeguard our lives before the situation spirals further out of control. Our people face imminent peril at the hands of these marauders, *he urged, appealing for preemptive measures to avert catastrophe.
Survivors of the onslaught, including Joshua Salifu, Achebu Paul, and Patient Akao, recounted the horrors unleashed by the assailants. “The assailants struck at dusk, unleashing terror upon our village. My wife and children remain missing, among the countless souls lost to this savagery,” Salifu lamented, his anguish mirrored by fellow survivors. “We’ ve endured repeated assaults, rendering our farmlands inaccessible. With the rainy season approaching, our plight grows dire. We beseech the government for protection, to reclaim our shattered lives.”
