In a recent report by the Edo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), it was revealed that 11 individuals tragically lost their lives in road accidents throughout the state during March 2024. Sector Commander Paul Okpe shared this somber information with the press in Benin City, shedding light on the concerning trend of road crashes in the region.
Within the span of a month, a total of eight accidents occurred, resulting in the aforementioned fatalities and leaving 24 individuals injured. Okpe highlighted various factors contributing to these incidents, including brake failure, speeding, driving under the influence, distracted driving such as phone usage, and violations of traffic regulations.
As part of efforts to address these alarming statistics, the sector commander emphasized the Importance of intensifying campaigns against traffic violations in Edo State. He urged motorists to prioritize safety by adhering to traffic laws, thereby reducing the risks associated with overloading vehicles, excessive speeding, driving while intoxicated, night-time driving, and using mobile devices behind the wheel.
In a bid to foster a culture of safety on the roads, Okpe called upon all drivers to take responsibility for their actions and make conscious efforts to prevent accidents.
