Shortly After Woman’s 2 Grandson Died, See Why Her 2 Daughters & Angry Residents Buried Her Alive
An 82- year- old woman from the Katuba area in Lufwanyama met a tragic fate as she was buried alive in a ‘ Chikondo’ ritual, allegedly orchestrated by individuals suspecting her of bewitching the deaths of her two grandsons, who passed away within a day of each other under mysterious circumstances.
The ‘ Chikondo’ ritual, a traditional practice prevalent in Lamba land and other regions, involves the use of charms placed on a coffin, believed to guide it towards the person deemed responsible for or connected to another’ s demise.
The appalling incident occurred on Wednesday, March 27th, around 07: 00 hours. Following the ritualistic burial, the woman’ s two daughters have been apprehended by the authorities to aid in the ongoing investigation.
According to Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba, the incident unfolded in the Kansonga area of Chingola. Edward Kalilele, the deceased woman’ s son, reported the tragic demise of his mother, Sarafina Sondashi, alleging that she was killed by a group of individuals suspected of practicing witchcraft.
The sequence of events leading to the elderly woman’ s demise is harrowing. On March 24th, Edward Kalilele received distressing news of his nephew’ s passing, followed by another nephew’ s sudden demise on March 25th, both under unclear circumstances.
The situation escalated when the deceased woman’ s daughter, Selestina Kalilele, accused her mother of being responsible for her grandsons’ deaths upon her arrival at the funeral house. This accusation led to the brutal beating of the elderly woman by mourners, who subsequently proceeded to assault Edward Kalilele.
Further distress ensued when Edward Kalilele discovered that his mother had been forcibly taken from their home by unidentified individuals. She was then subjected to further physical violence, including being hit with the coffin bearing her grandson’ s body.
Upon police intervention, it was revealed that the elderly woman had sustained severe injuries, including cuts, bruises, and signs of suffocation, indicating she may have been buried alive and subsequently exhumed.
Preliminary investigations have led to the detention of Sarafina Sondashi’ s daughters, Selestina and Sarah Zimba, aged 25, to aid in unraveling the circumstances surrounding their mother’ s tragic demise. The police are diligently pursuing leads to bring justice to those involved in this heinous act.
