Paul Akintelure, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has sadly passed away. His demise occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 26, 2024, just a month before the APC governorship primary election scheduled for April 25.
According to Vanguard, Akintelure had expressed concerns about both direct and indirect threats to his life prior to his passing. His spokesperson, Oladapo Akintelure, quoted the late politician in a statement on Thursday, March 21, 2023, saying: ” Initially, I hoped these incidents would dissipate over time, yet regrettably, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my life. ”
” The threats against me only strengthen my resolve to stand up for what is right and just. I will not allow fear to dictate our path forward. ”
The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Alex Kalejaiye, confirmed the news of Akintelure’ s death, as reported by The Punch. ” It is true, I can confirm it. We would issue a statement about it shortly. ”
Akintelure, a medical doctor, previously served as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside the late Rotimi Akeredolu in 2012.
They were unsuccessful in the election, losing to Olusegun Mimiko, the incumbent governor and Labour Party flagbearer at the time. Additionally, Akintelure contested and lost the senatorial election against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.

The educational journey of Akintelure began at St. Anthony’ s RCM School, Omotosho, in 1967, and he completed his primary education at St. Pius Primary School, Igbotako, in 1973.
He then attended Manuwa Memorial Grammar School, lju- Odo, in 1975, where he achieved a Division One grade in the West African School Certificate Exams (WASCE) in 1980.
He later earned a medical degree, MBBS, from the University of Ibadan, Oyo state, in 1990.
In 2012, Akintelure served as the deputy governorship candidate alongside the late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).
Prior to this, he contested and lost the Ondo South senatorial election, also under the ACN, against the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, as reported by The Nation.
Akintelure is a longtime associate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a private medical practitioner based in Lagos. He also holds the traditional titles of Otunba of Osooro- land and Otunba of Ikale- land.
