Just like the beginning of every year, a lot of people hoped and believed that 2024 would be a better year. Unfortunately, the year 2024 which is barely 3 months old has had a number of notable stars in Nollywood die prematurely.
Hence the reason they said death doesn’ t respect anyone whether old or young and never gives notice before striking.
Death is a call every living being must answer one day but our prayer is to actualize our dreams before departing.
For the sake of this article, we shall be looking at five prominent actors who passed away this year and they are as follows;
Olofa Ina: Deji Aderemi, a renowned Yoruba actor known as Olofa Ina, passed away on January 4th at the age of 73. The actor died from cancer in Lagos State.
Ethel Ekpe: Ethel Ekpe, a seasoned actress who had enthralled audiences for years, died on February 7th in Lagos State. She was 73 years old and had been dealing with cancer for quite some time.
Sisi Quadri: Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, well known as Sisi Quadri, passed away on March 1st at the age of 44. His colleagues in the Yoruba film industry reported his death on social media.
Mr. Ibu: The news of the passing of John Okafor, who was well known as Mr. Ibu, leaked out on March 2nd. He died at the age of 62 from a heart attack. Recall that Mr Ibu had his legs amputated, which confined him to the wheelchair. He acted in more than 200 movies ever since he made his debut in the industry and played several roles.
Mr Ibu can also be categorized as a comic actor and would never be forgotten for the fatherly roles he played in movies together with Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme popularly known as Aki and pawpaw.
Amaechi Muonagor: Just few days after the loss of Mr Ibu, Nollywood lost another comedy actor, Amaechi Muonagor who died on March 24th. Muonagor had been suffering kidney disease for a long time. His death occurred immediately after a viral video in which he asked for financial aid for a kidney transplant.
Nollywood has had a difficult year in 2024, with a number of notable actors passing away unexpectedly. These talented individuals left a lasting legacy in the world of cinema. Their contributions will continue to influence upcoming generations of actors and filmmakers.
