I will destroy your life’: Phoenix firefighter charged in connection to damaged homes
A Phoenix firefighter is accused of causing more than $30,000 in damages to two Valley homes.
PHOENIX — A Phoenix firefighter remains on paid administrative leave after allegedly causing significant damage to two Valley homes.
The Phoenix Fire Department (PFD) told 12News they’re investigating the allegations.
Gregory Knauss has been employed by Phoenix fire for 17 years, despite having a criminal history.
Knauss pled guilty to attempted theft and possession of a forgery device in 2013.
Court documents obtained by 12News reveal the firefighter has been arrested several times in the past.
PFD said they’re aware of previous allegations and issues.
“Each issue was investigated and managed consistent with our process and when warranted the appropriate level of discipline was given. Regarding the most recent allegations, we are actively investigating and managing through the process,” a PFD spokesperson said in a statement.
Most recently, Knauss is accused of causing more than $25,000 in damage to a Peoria home after allegedly drilling holes into the roof and spraying foam into plumbing systems.
Court documents said Knauss also allegedly sent threatening text messages to the victim, saying “I know where you live and where you work. If you don’t think I will destroy your life, I don’t think you know who I am.”
A second victim reported similar claims days after Knauss was arrested in the Peoria case.
A former Phoenix neighbor accused Knauss of spraying foam into his drain pipe, causing sewage to back up into his home.
The incident happened in 2020, when the neighbor also accused Knauss of poisoning a lemon tree and grass in his front yard.
Phoenix police said the chemical used around the tree was found in Knauss’ trash can.
Knauss faces several felony charges in these cases, including burglary, threatening or intimidating, and criminal damage.
12News reached out to Knauss for comment, but he did not answer.
