Tinubu presents APC flag to Edo gov candidate, running mate
President Bola Tinubu has officially presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag to the party’s standard bearer and his running mate for the upcoming September 21 Edo State gubernatorial election, Dennis Idahosa, at the statehouse.
During the flag presentation, President Tinubu expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects for victory in the election.
He commended the state party leadership for their efforts in resolving internal conflicts, which led to the emergence of the candidate and his running mate.
Tinubu believes that with these issues resolved, the APC is well-positioned to assume leadership in the state after the upcoming election.
The primary election process, which culminated in Okpebholo emerging as the candidate, faced various controversies.
Initially, Idahosa was declared the party’s nominee by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led committee.
However, the first round of voting saw multiple candidates, including Okpebholo, Idahosa, and Dekeri, vie for the governorship ticket.
Due to irregularities, the National Working Committee declared the exercise inconclusive.
Ultimately, Okpebholo secured victory in the re-run held on February 23, receiving 12,433 votes.
