An investigation is currently underway in Mayuge District, where a tragic incident occurred in Buwanda village, Malongo sub-county. A 32-year-old woman named Fatuma Nabirye was allegedly murdered by her husband. The shocking incident unfolded when the husband locked Nabirye inside their bedroom and proceeded to brutally attack her with a machete, inflicting multiple wounds.
The distressing event came to light through the screams of the victim, which were heard by residents in the vicinity. However, their attempts to enter the locked bedroom were futile, leaving them unable to intervene. Regrettably, some residents dismissed the commotion as a mere domestic dispute, failing to comprehend the gravity of the situation.
Diana Nandaula, the spokesperson for Busoga East Police, revealed that the husband is currently on the run and had recently served a two-year prison sentence. Prior to his conviction, he had three wives, including the deceased. Preliminary investigations indicate that the husband accused Nabirye of adultery during his period of incarceration, which allegedly served as the motive for the gruesome attack.
In a chilling turn of events, the suspect, along with one of his other wives, took Nabirye’ s lifeless body out of the house and disposed of it in a cassava garden.
The victim’s remains were discovered on Wednesday. Authorities have detained the suspect’s accomplice to aid in their Investigation. Diana Nandaula attributed the incident to domestic violence, emphasizing that such cases are alarmingly prevalent in the Busoga East region, ranking as the top crime category the previous year.
Rogers Mugabi, the brother of the deceased, has put forth an alternative theory, claiming that the suspect sought revenge for the two-year jail term he served after being found guilty of stealing their mother’s cow. Mugabi asserted that the suspect harbored resentment toward his sister due to the legal consequences he faced. Expressing condemnation for the heinous crime, David Zijja, a sub-county councilor in Malongo, labeled such acts as both criminal and shameful. He called upon individuals to refrain from engaging in violence, emphasizing its illegality and the disgrace it brings upon the community.
In a separate incident, the police in Mayuge District have initiated an investigation into the mysterious death of an unidentified man. His lifeless body. was discovered at Paradise Lodge in Lugolole trading center, Baitambogwe sub-county. The circumstances surrounding his demise remain unclear and are subject to ongoing scrutiny by law enforcement authorities.
