Soldiers of of the Nigerian Army have taken out a notorious bandit kingpin, popularly known as Boderi, who is sald to have orchestrated several high-profile attacks that dominated news headlines. in Nigeria in 2021.
The bandit is said to be responsible for masterminding the kidnappings of the Yauri school girls, as well as some students of Greenfield University. He was reportedly also behind the infamous attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy. In Kaduna.
Recall that 11 students were abducted.
from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, when bandits invaded the school on the 17th of June, nearly three years ago in 2021, Also recall the kidnap of students at Greenfield University, which took place on the 20th of April, 2021. Back then, at least 20 students and 2 members of staff were abducted in Kasarami village, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State. Bandits had also stormed the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, killing two officers and abducting another senior officer, on the 24th of August, 2021.
They Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Director Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, said that Boderi was killed along with another kingpin, Bodejo, in an ambush by troops of the 1 Division Army along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road
According to the Director, soldiers also recovered arms and ammunition in the ongoing offensive in Igabi, Giwa and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas of Kaduna.
“Soldiers of the Nigerian Army, at 1 Division area of responsibility have further neutralised insurgents and recovered more guns and ammunition, from fights with insurgents in the Igabi, Giwa and Birnin Gwari Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, the statement
read.
“While responding to recent insurgents attacks on civilians in Igabi and Giwa Local Governments, operations were underway to flush out the insurgents from these areas and bring succour to the people.
“While on patrol along Maganda- Dausayi- Mugaba axis, troops got attacked by insurgents who used rustied herds of cattle as shields, while they engaged the troops in a direct firefight. “The attackers, whose number could not
be ascertained, shot at the troops while
using the animals as cover, prompting an
immediate response from troops.
“The firefight went on for about an hour,
but soldiers neutralized two of the
insurgents and recovered several items.
Unfortunately, in the encounter, some of
the stolen livestock used as cover by the
insurgents got caught in the crossfire,

Insurgents and remain resolute on ridding the area of armed violence. “In another operation by troops of 1 Division of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday, the 22nd of February 2024, the troops successfully attacked marauding insurgents along the Kaduna-
Birnin Gwari Road.
“In the encounter, troops took out 6
Insurgents and recovered 2 AK 47 rifles,
5 AK 47 rifle magazines, 300 rounds of 7.
62mm ammunition, and 19 motorcycles
which were destroyed.
“Intelligence sources are stating that the notorious bandit, Kingpin Boderi who masterminded many high profile abductions, including the Yauri school girls, Greenfield University students and attack on Nigerian Defence Academy, was killed along with another kingpin,
Bodejo in the ambush.
