MARRIAGE OR HELL?? Man Turns Wife To Punching Bag, Beats Her To Coma After Valentine’s Day; See Why
A middle-aged married man simply identified by the name, Samuel Umeojili, 38 years of age, was charged by the police on Monday, 19th February 2024 before an Ado- Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for physically abusing his spouse up to the point that she fell into coma.
The defendant, who resides at No. 2 Idolofin Street in Ado-Ekiti, is currently being prosecuted on two counts of assault and breach of peace.
During the trial of the accused, the prosecuting attorney, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offenses at No. 2, Idolofin Street, Ado-Ekiti, on 15th February 2024, which was a day after Valentine’s Day celebration at around 9:00 a. m in the
morning.
The prosecutor also claimed that Okechukwu Umeojili, the wife of the violent man, was beaten into a coma by the defendant.
In addition, Bamikole went on to say that the defendant’ s usage of his wife as a punching bag was likely to provoke a breach of peace which is a serious offense that goes against Sections 185 and 181 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
In order to review the case file and gather his witnesses, the prosecution requested that the court postpone the trial so that he could gather enough proof to show that the accused is guilty of the above-mentioned offense and why he shouldn’t go scot-free.
“I see no reason why a full grown man with children would derive pleasure in beating up his woman rather than settling dispute amicably and in a reasonable manner. Now the woman is In coma and only God knows if she would survive such a traumatic experience brought upon her by the so- called man she got married to”, he emphasized strongly.
In his defense, without legal representation, the defendant pronounced himself innocent and denied all accusations that were filed against him.
The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N25, 000 with one guarantor in the same amount by Chief Magistrate Mr. Saka Afunso, who determined that the offense qualified for bail under the law. The matter was then postponed till 29th February 2024 for next court
hearing.
