Sends POWERFUL Message To Tinubu, Tells Nigerians What To Do Over Hardship
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has urged President Bola Tinubu to create a nation where no citizen is mistreated or marginalised because of their race, religion, or political affiliation. In a statement made on Sunday, February 18, 2024, following its Standing Committee meeting in Abuja, the church expressed alarm about the country’s increasing occurrences of instability,violence, and injustice, particularly in the northern and southern regions.
The statement, signed by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, and the Registrar, Barr. Abraham Yisa, asked the president to address the core causes of the disputes and crises that have taken many lives and properties while also threatening the nation’s unity and stability.
The church said: “We appeal to the president and the government of Nigeria to give us a nation where no citizen is oppressed or marginalized on account of their tribe, religion, or political affiliation. We urge the president to listen to the cries and aspirations of the people, and to ensure that justice, equity, and fairness prevail in every part of the country.”
The church also condemned the activities of armed bandits, kidnappers, terrorists, and secessionist groups, who have been terrorizing and killing innocent Nigerians, and called for their immediate arrest and prosecution.
The church said: “We denounce the acts of violence and bloodshed perpetrated by arned bandits, kidnappers, terrorists, and secessionist groups, who have been. wreaking havoc and causing untold hardship and sorrow to many Nigerians. We call on the security agencies to Intensify their efforts to apprehend and bring these criminals to justice, and to restore peace and order in the affected areas.
The church commended the efforts of the military and other security agencies in combating the security challenges, and called for more support and collaboration from the government and the citizens.
They said: “We appreciate the sacrifices and bravery of our military and other security personnel, who have been risking their lives to protect and defend our nation. We call for more support and collaboration from the government and the citizens, to enable them to perform their duties effectively and efficiently.”
