Addressing the gathering under the theme” Security, Social Justice, and Poverty Eradication: Clarion Demands on Governance in Nigeria, ” Gowon underscored the urgency of addressing. pressing issues critical to the nation’s progress.
In light of the diverse security challenges incessantly threatening the nation’s peace and prosperity, it is paramount for governments at all levels to transcend their differences and political affiliations, Gowon asserted.
“We are confronted with myriad security threats, with kidnappings and banditry wreaking havoc on unsuspecting Nigerians. I implore those disrupting the peace to lay down their arms and embrace harmony. Furthermore, I urge all Nigerians to steadfastly pray for peace in our nation,” he added.
Gowon stressed the indispensable link between security and economic prosperity, asserting,” Security is foundational for fostering a thriving economy through the proliferation of viable businesses across all sectors.
Echoing Gowon’ s sentiments, the guest speaker at the event, Mr. Mike Awoyinfa, Publisher of Corporate Biographers, attributed the surge in crime to the dire
state of the economy.
“A sound economy is fundamental. The prevailing economic challenges affect a wide spectrum of individuals. In such circumstances, individuals, irrespective of religious affiliations, may succumb to criminal temptations,” Awoyinfa remarked.
He emphasized the cyclical nature of crime, noting that when individuals perceive a lack of consequences for their actions, it emboldens them to continue Illicit activities.
Meanwhile, Timothy Banwo, President of the BSN, underscored the intrinsic connection between security, social
