In Adamawa State, a tragic incident unfolded when a 56-year-old man named Aminu Abubakar beat his 38- year-old wife, Nana Fadimatu, to death. The couple resided in Lelewaji, Shagari phase 2, in the Yola South Local Government Area.
Trouble started when Abubakar heard rumors that his wife planned to marry another man the next day. This news angered him deeply. The disagreement between the couple escalated, leading Abubakar to resort to violence.
Around 10 pm on Friday, Abubakar attacked Fadimatu with a hard object. The blow rendered her unconscious, and tragically, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Following the horrific incident, the police received a report from Mahmud Rufai, who was to be Fadimatu’s new husband. They swiftly apprehended Abubakar at the Shagari Divisional Police Headquarters.
Investigations revealed that Abubakar and Fadimatu had been married for nine years and had one child together. Abubakar worked as a manager at Anasam Table Water in Jambutu 50 Housing.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, expressed shock at the Incident but commended the swift action of the Shagari Divisional Police for apprehending the suspect. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that Abubakar faces justice for his heinous crime.
To ensure a thorough investigation, officers from the Anti- Homicide unit, attached to the State CID, were deployed to take over the case. The police commissioner urged the public to remain vigilant and report any individuals displaying suspicious behavior to the authorities.
The tragic death of Nana Fadimatu serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. It highlights the urgent need for society to address and prevent such acts of violence within households. As investigations continue, the hope is that justice will be served, and measures will be taken to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
