On Tuesday, 6th February 2024, a middle- aged man simply identified by the Clement Simon, 38 years of age XBET been dragged in front of the Kadu NE Chief Magistrates Court and slammed with an allegation of beating his sister- in-law to a stupor at his residence in Ungwan Boto, Kaduna. The lady (victim is said to have engaged in an argument with the defendant which escalated into a physical fight during which she incurred serious beatings from the man after advising his wife (her sister) to leave the marriage.
Following the information obtained by local newsmen, the defendant committed the offense at his home on 2nd February 2024, as claimed by the prosecuting attorney, Inspector Chidi Leo, who testified against the defendant in court on one count charge of assault, adding that the victim, Janet Godwin actually visited her older sister at the defendant’s house to settle a marital dispute and in the process she advised her sister to leave the marriage due to the repeated cases of domestic violence. Out of annoyance, the defendant found the above-mentioned advice by the victim quite offensive and ended up beating her.
“The defendant and his wife had a misunderstanding. The older sister came over to intervene but was assaulted by her sister s husband”, the prosecutor said.
Explaining further, he went on to say that the defendant was apprehended and detained as soon as a distress call was received by police officers who were deployed to the location to take control of the upsetting situation. The results of the inquiries indicated that the defendant often mistreated and harassed his wife.
Nonetheless, the defendant denied all allegations saying he doesn’t beat his wife but pleaded for mercy for laying his hands on his sister-in-law affirming that, It was the statement she made tha annoyed him.
Meanwhile, the defendant was granted. bail in the amount of N150, 000 with one guarantor in the same amount by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who also postponed the matter till 4th March 2024 for the next court hearing after which he gave a directive for the defendant to be taken back to prison until further notice.
