BLACK TUESDAY In Ebonyi As Blood, Tears Flow After Ghastly Accident Claimed Multiple Lives And This Happened To Others
On Monday, 5th February 2024, the operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) announced to the general public that, along the Onueke axis, precisely on the Afikpo- Abakaliki highway in Ebonyi, a fatal accident claimed the precious lives of no less than six people.
Following the information obtained by local news reporters, Igwe Nnabuife, the sector commander of the FRSC operatives in Ebonyi state, reported in Abakaliki, the state’ s capital about 17 individuals were caught up in the unfortunate occurrence, adding that 11 persons are currently in life-threatening condition after sustaining serious injuries and bodily damages from the crash while six others paid the ultimate price.
Explaining further, the FRSC boss, Mr. Nnabuife went on to say that, a total of five cars brought about the fatal collision including two articulated vehicles and a Peace Mass Transit commercial bus.
“It happened around 11: 50 a. m. at Onuwedu, Onueke axis, Ezza South local government area LGA of Ebonyi. This is a multiple crash and it was caused by wrong overtaking. The deceased victims have been taken to the mortuary at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while those injured are receiving treatment”.
“We advice drivers to always be patient while driving. Always obey the traffic rules and regulations. Avoid dangerous driving and over- speeding to save lives”, Mr Nnabuife affirmed.
In the meantime, the FRSC commandant attributed the cause of the crash to over- speeding and wrongful overtaking while describing it to be a very gruesome scene as the road agency operatives got a wind of the tragedy via a distress call received from a reliable source from the area while appealing to road users especially the commercial ones to always adhere to the laid down rules and regulations guiding the affairs of the road in order to avoid future reoccurrences.
Mr. Nnabuife then conveyed his sincere condolences to the family members of the deceased urging then to take heart while praying for God to grant them the strength to bear such huge losses after which he wished the hospitalized victims quick recovery from the several undisclosed medical facilities they were rushed to for treatments.
