In the annals of history, few crimes are as heinous and shocking as the one committed by a 50- year- old man, Daniyan Ojo, who allegedly set his wife, Dorcas, ablaze in Ondo State, Nigeria. The tragic incident has been described as a case of domestic violence fueled by greed and jealousy. According to report, Daniyan locked up his wife in her room while she was asleep and then set the house on fire. The wife, who was a trader and a mother of four, reportedly died due to the degree of burns after she was given medical attention for 72 hours at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.
A family source said that the husband took that drastic decision after he discovered that his wife had secretly bought a property without his knowledge. The source also revealed that the husband had earlier reported the wife to her brother, Adeniyi Samuel, over a title document of a commercial vehicle she bought and registered in her name.
Samuel testified that his sister confided in him that she bought the property in her name because she was afraid the husband could dispose of them without her consent. He stated that he was able to resolve the issue between them and went back to his base, but was later informed on the phone about the fire outbreak at their residence.
