In a surprising move, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) are relocating key departments to Lagos, citing rising costs as a primary motivation.

The CBN, through an internal memo obtained by Sunday PUNCH, disclosed its decongestion action plan aimed at optimizing its operational environment. The memo highlights the necessity to align the bank’ s structure with its functions, redistribute skills for geographical diversity, and comply with building safety standards.
With a focus on maximizing other bank premises, 1, 533 staff will be relocated within Abuja, Lagos, and understaffed branches to address the current overcrowding challenges.
Similarly, the Federal Government, via Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, officially declared the relocation of FAAN’ s headquarters from Abuja to Lagos. AYCF President General, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, voiced strong opposition to these relocations during a press conference in Kaduna. Shettima expressed apprehension about the potential threat to Abuja’ s symbolic role in fostering national unity and the likelihood of economic setbacks resulting from disrupted operations.
